  Stage One

Interlocutor: Good morning. My name is John Smith, and this ismycolleague, Mary Clinton. And your names are Li Hua andWangWei?

Li: Yeah.

Wang: Yeah.

Interlocutor: Thank you. Now, first of all, wed like toknowsomething about each of you. Mr. Li, can you tell meaboutyourself?

Li: My pleasure. As you know, my name is Li Hua. Im fromJiangsuProvince. Im now studying in Suzhou University. And Immajoringin international trade there.

Interlocutor: Thank you, Mr Li. Now Mr. Wang, can you tellmeabout your ambitions?

Wang: Yes. I am now a student with Suzhou University majoringinbusiness administration. I hope I can join aworld-famousmultinational company. And after I have had enoughexperience, I amgoing to start a company of my own.

Interlocutor: Thank you, Mr. Wang. And Mr. Li, could you tellmeabout your ambitions?

Li: A big question for me indeed. Ive never thought about it,butI bet Ill work towards a CEO of a big s my goal in life. And thats why I am spendingso much time onEnglish, business English in particular.

Interlocutor: Mr. Li, you said youre spending a lot of timeonbusiness English. Do you think business English is difficulttolearn?

Li: Not exactly, though it may be difficult at the thing is that you need to have some business knowledgebeforeyou start to learn business English.

Interlocutor: How about you, Mr. Wang? Is it difficultforyou?

Wang: Not really. You know, I like English very much, and mymajoris business administration. So I have always found businessEnglishvery interesting.

Well, in my opinion, you can never underestimate the importanceofhaving a good the majority of cases, your CV is theemployersfirst impression of you, your first chance to impressyour potentialemployer, lets say. It is the essentialillustration of yoursuitability for the job, showing how yourskills and experiencematch your employers requirements.

Even though employers these days use a variety ofselectiontechniques, such as analyzing your handwriting, a good CVis stillthe single most important part of any application.

  Time Management

Your company has found that ineffective time management is oneofthe major problem areas throughout the workforce. You havebeenasked to put forward some suggestions for improvingthesituation.

Discuss, and decide together:Why poor time management can becomeamajor problem in companiesWhat procedures could be adopted toensurethat time is managed effectively.

Zhang: Hi, Ms Wang, you know, our company is sort of outofcontrol these days. Dont you think so?

Wang: Yeah. Everything seems to be in disorder here inourcompany. And that obviously has a lot to do with poortimemanagement.

Zhang: You mean poor time management has caused alltheseproblems. Why?

Wang: When time is not well planned within a company, theyusuallydo not allocate blocks of time to specified tasks. They donot havea definite idea of when they should complete a certaintask. And…

Zhang: And I think they often neglect the ordering ofpriorities.I mean certain tasks need our prior attention. But inour companyevery task is treated on an equal basis, even if it is averyurgent task.

Wang: Thats the point. So time should be planned according totheimportance of the tasks we need to deal with.

Zhang: So what do you think we can do so that time ismanagedeffectively here in our company?

Wang: You mean what procedures we can adopt?

Zhang: Sure. Thats what our boss is asking us to do. center?

Wang: center. I think weve got a lot to do. First, we shouldmakeall the staff mrs realize how important effective timemanagementis to our company.

Zhang: Yes, I think we can give them instruction intimemanagement, especially those in supervisory positions.

Zhang: Good idea. So to sum up, our company should run afewtraining programs, and every staff mr should write a job detionoftheir own.

Wang: And rules should be made as to what kind of job shouldbegiven priority to.
