Owing to the current exam-oriented education environment, students attach much importance to learning English. This is having a negative impact on traditional Chinese cultural values. It’s high time that we cooled down our English fever and protected our mother tongue. Instead of making English a compulsory course, schools should make it optional and offer other courses on Chinese culture and other foreign languages.

It is learning English that can help us to understand the rest of the world. Because of English, we can travel abroad without tour guides, understand the instructions of imported goods and study abroad. It is too extreme to cancel English classes in schools. It is our education system instead of English learning that makes students as busy as bees.

Th year's summer vacation was most enjoyable. I spent fifteen days helping my grandparents doing farm work in the countryside， where I saw mountains fields covered with green plants. Sometimes I went swimming in the river to the west of the village， the water in which was quite clear.

I kept a diary every day. Besides doing farm work， I help the children in the neighborhood with their lessons. All of them showed interest in Englh. They could read write wellthey could hardly understand simple Englh. So every day in the morning I spent about two hours helping them improve their ltening spoken Englh. They all made great progress. Their parents all thought highly of me. I now realize that knowledge very needed in the countryside.

My Vacation

My vacation was very interesting。 I did my homework on first day。 I played table tennis on second day。 I watched TV on the third day。 I went shopping on the fourth day。 But I liked my going shopping best。

On Sunday， I went to a shopping center with my mother。 The shopping center wasn't far from my home。 It took us about ten minutes to get there on foot。 The shopping center was very big。 There were all kinds of things。 Every day a lot of people go there to buy things。 It opens at eight in the morning and closes at nine at night。 Now， I was helping my mother buying things。 I had a shopping list in my hand。 We were looking for things on the shopping list。 After staying in the shopping center for about two hours， we got all the things and walked home。

下午，英语节开演，身为观众而非演员的我，只能和大部分同学坐在教室内在第三、四节课上观看直播。没办法，谁让自己不是演员呢！谁让自己报名时不够积极呢。谁让自己没有这个在台上展示口语的胆量呢。

台上演员的表演一个个都十分精彩，台下的我们却只能观赏这场大戏，做出一些“没有什么用处”的欢呼喝彩、鼓掌。如此一来，台上台下，谁更有价值，谁的水平更高，谁的处境更好……自然，也就一目了然了。绝对的，台上的人比我这台下的强多了。

先不说谁英语好、表演能力好、运气好，抛开这些统统不提，单单是台上的同学的'敢于上台的勇气就足以令人敬佩，并且更胜我一筹了。虽然我以前也报过名，但那也仅仅是一个配角罢了，台词十句话都不到，而且，就算这个节目不表演了，难道我就不会投身到其他节目里吗？是运气不好节目被淘汰掉了吗？不是！是自己的英语口语不强吗？不是，我每天的外教课也不是白上的！这一个又一个理由，只是苍白而无力的谎言罢了。根本原因，并不如此。

真正的原因，是不自信。面对英语，缺乏勇气，一心只想要逃避。一直这样，又怎么会成为台上的演员呢？始终这样，就算过一百年也不用想上台，但问题是，我就真的不敢上台吗？不是。仔细想想，我哪个地方逊色于别人了？英语方面，我的英语成绩在班里不算差，口语我也一直上着1对1外教课，有很大提升。临场方面，从小到大，主持人领诵也不知当过多少次，自然不怯场。技巧方面，在英语新概念课上表演课文内容，我们组合总能在我的带领下获表演最佳，表演天分一点都不差。所以，由此可见，对于英语节节目，我有很多资本。既然如此，干嘛不去拼一把呢？
