在现代社会，女子要得到男士青睐，除了要温柔、知书达理外，还需要具备很多别的优点。男人们心中理想的女人应该是，受过良好教育、风趣、心理和经济都很独立，等等。可现在的问题是，有多少男人配得上如此高淑商(gentlewoman quotient)的女子呢?

Meet Miss Average from around the world as computer works out the most common face in each country -- More than 100 women of 41 different nationalities and ethnicities were photographed in cities all over the world in an effort to find common regional features.

上面报道中的Miss Average就是指“女性大众脸”，所谓“大众脸”也就是具有某地区人们长相共同特征的脸庞。不过，很多人都觉得大众脸是“长相平庸”的另一种说法，因此不会把这种称呼当作赞美。相比之下，人们更喜欢听到别人说自己是celebrity look-alike(明星脸)。
Average和plain这个词一样通常用来表示“平均的、普通的”，例如average Joe/plain Jane都表示各方面都一般，不怎么出众的“普通人”;而如果在average前面加上above或者below则分别表示“高于”或“低于”一般水平，例如：His grade is above average.(他的成绩属于中等偏上水平。)
