这是一部根据发生在日本的一个真实故事改编的。影片讲述了一只叫八公的秋田犬在快递过程中被遗失并偶遇男主人公帕克教授。每天早上八公都会送教授去车站，然后就自行回家，下午5点再准时的去车站等教授一起回家，可是突然有一天，八公怎么都不肯跟着教授出门，因为要上班，教授还是出门了，着急的八公叼了一个球追着教授去车站。第一次也是唯一一次，八公肯叼球了，教授因此很高兴，但八公不肯回家，还赖着教授要一起玩，教授终于还是上了车。八公跑到站台上，看着火车在自己眼前一点点变小、消失，眼里流露出难过的哀伤。
