When mercury levels shot up to that forty-five degrees Celsius in the Greek capital alone. Now, emergency measures are still in effect. Two elderly women have died here as a result of heat stroke that they suffered during this heatwave. And scores of other people have been rushed to hospital with respiratory problems. Authorities continue to advise Greeks and tourists here to restrict movement and to limit the use of electrical appliances especially during the peak hours to prevent further power outages. Officials, though at the Public Power cooperation here are saying that they are keeping a close watch of the nation's power grid because of record consumption. Todd, back to you.

ANTHEE CARRASAV: Well, this latest heatwave, which is in fact the second heatwave to hit Greece since June has fueled a fresh fate of forest fires. Just in less than twelve hours, more than one hundred of them were sparked across the country, ranging from the holiday island of Kefalonia to Palapanis. And the civil protection agency here has issued warnings and alerts. In fact fearing more destruction because of strong winds that have picked up over night and are now sweeping the country. This of course is challenging the work of the firefighters. Todd.
